I’m participating in another season of the One Room Challenge and I couldn’t be more excited! This season I decided to go with a smaller project since my laundry room renovation was pretty stressful to complete in 6 weeks. My current pantry situation isn’t the best. It’s not only super small but the wire shelving is too deep and not really optimized in terms of the layout. I love woodworking and I’ve been wanting to build custom cabinets and shelves for my pantry for as we’ve been in this home. The One Room Challenge is just the push that I needed to tackle this pantry makeover.
Pantry Before:
Before we get into my design plan let’s take a look at my current pantry. I do my best to keep it organized but I really need to optimize this small space. Having a blank wall on the left doesn’t help with my lack of storage.
Custom Cabinetry
This pantry is about 4.5ft x 3.5ft so I’m not working with much space here. That said, I have pretty big plans for the cabinetry and shelves. Below is my initial concept/layout but I’ll probably be tweaking it a bit over the next few weeks. I’ll be posting tutorials for the cabinets including a pull out cabinet to store my dog’s food and a cabinet that hinges open for my recycling bin.
Colors
The base cabinets (and possibly open shelves) will be painted the same blue/gray color as my kitchen cabinets. I also plan to add a fun wallpaper or some sort of painted accent behind the open shelving.
Lighting
I can’t make a beautiful pantry and not replace the builder grade light so I’ll be upgrading that with something that is more elegant looking and provides more light.

Participating in the One Room Challenge was a ton of fun last time so I’m very excited to be joining this amazing community of designers and DIYer’s for another season. You can visit the One Room Challenge blog to see room transformations from all of the participants. I can’t wait to see how everyone’s plans turn out.

Thank you!
That lemon wallpaper is too cute! I’m glad that you’re going with something so fun
Thanks!
I’ve been adoring that lemon wallpaper on Spoonflower for a long time and I can’t wait to see how it looks in your pantry. That might convince me it’s time to just get it! I love your mood board!
I was totally drawn to this print. It’s fun but classy at the same time.
I love your plan and especially love that wallpaper. It is going to be beautiful!
Thank you Linda. I can’t wait to see it come to life.
I love the inspiration you have shared, my little pantry is so cluttered I had my son turn the coat closet into a second pantry and now I can see what I have. One for canned and package mixes and the other for all my baking. Thank you for sharing on #omhgww hope you will stop by and share again this week.
Have a great week!
Thanks so much. I’ll be sure to stop by gain this week!
