How to Make a Beautiful Dried Flower Wreath

I love the look of dried flower wreaths but I haven’t found one that I felt was reasonably priced. The one’s that I’ve been eyeing are upwards of $75 and I just can’t…

So I set out to do what I do best and make my own version for a fraction of the price. The materials ended up totalling to just over $30 so I’d call that a win!

Here are the details on how I made my own DIY dried flower wreath. Isn’t it so pretty?

How to Make a Dried Flower Wreath

Materials

Dried Flowers ( I purchased two bouquets from Home Goods)
Floral tape
Wreath Form
Floral wire

Tools

Wire cutters

Step 1 – Organize your stems

You can either buy individual dried flower stems or go with a premade bouquet like I did. I choose the bouquets because the individual stems are pretty expensive and with the amount that you would need to make a wreath, bouquets are a much cheaper option.

I purchased both bouquets from Home Goods for around $10 each. One had different hues of pink as the main colors and the other was more green and tan.

Separate and match up the stems and then place them each in piles so that you can take inventory of what you have.

I also had some eucalyptus that you see in the right of the image. I wasn’t sure if the bouquets would have enough flowers so I had this as a backup in case the wreath wasn’t full enough. Luckily I didn’t need it because the colors didn’t work well anyways.

Step 2 – Make tiny dried flower bouquets

To make the wreath look full you’ll need to make some tiny bouquets that will then be attached around the wreath frame.

Choose complimentary colors and then attach the stems together using floral tape. Note that my floral tape wasn’t sticking so I went around the floral tape with some scotch tape to keep it in place. Trim the ends after you’ve tape the stems together.

I made four of each combination so that the wreath could have some consistent coloring around it. See example below.

Step 3 – Attach the flowers to the wreath frame

Use floral wire to attach the mini bouquet to the wreath frame. You may be able to cut your wire with strong scissors but if those don’t work you’ll need wire cutters.

Step 4 – Attach more flowers to the wreath

After you get the first batch of flowers attached, you’ll want to lay the next batch of mini bouquets over the previous so that the flowers cover the stem and tape.

Below you can see where I first attached 4 of the pink bouquets. Then I added a green and tan bouquet near the base of each of the pink.

Step 5 – Keep adding flowers until the wreath is full

Add more flowers/mini bouquets until the wreath is full to your liking.

Once you’ve finished attaching all of the flowers you can hang your wreath on your door and enjoy your masterpiece!

This wreath would not withstand wind or rain so make sure that you have a storm door.
